A Fortna Client saved $1.3 million when using Fortna’s Pick Module Configuration Optimizer™ model to estimate the productivity, cost and labor impacts of implementing one, two, or three pick modules in a new distribution center. Though the Client initially planned to invest in three pick modules, Fortna was able to prove that two pick modules were sufficient and optimal for the Client’s requirements.
Another Client had a strong preference towards a particular forward pick area design, which it turns out would have been very space and labor inefficient. Fortna’s Pick Module Configuration Optimizer™ helped optimize which items should come from the forward pick area, and which could be fulfilled from reserve. The resulting design reduced space requirements by 200,000 sq. ft. The Client saved $1.2 million in capital expense, and $700,000 per year in picking labor cost.
