More >> Supply Chain Strategy Thought Leadership

When it comes to supply chain strategy, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Carry too much inventory and costs skyrocket. Carry too little and customer service levels plummet. Fuel costs, driver safety, regulations and other constantly changing factors make transportation strategy complex. That’s why we analyze more than 700 product attributes, from size and seasonality to cost and pick type, to help you determine optimal inventory levels and the most efficient and cost-effective way to move items through your DC to your customer.

Fortna partnered with a large retail chain to consolidate four DCs into two. Transit from the DCs to stores decreased 30%, labor cost per unit improved 27% and freight expense decreased by 17%. DC processing went from three days to less than one while storage and daily throughput more than doubled—despite cutting the number of facilities in half.

Fortna helped a large outdoor product retailer cut carrying costs by 11% and increase labor productivity by 10% with a supply chain and flow path strategy that enabled business growth and improved in-store service. Incremental profit came from reduced stock-outs and lower excess inventory across 200 stores.

Fortna helped a large multi-channel retailer optimize existing assets, support multi-channel growth and provide a migration plan for expansion. The retailer was able to postpone expansion by three years, increased sortation capacity 15% and move forward with an expansion plan designed to save more than $8 million per year.
