OHL provides supply chain management services from a network of approx. 20 primary distribution hubs throughout the US and in Canada and maintains more than 24 million sq. ft. of dry and temperature-controlled warehouse space.
OHL worked with Fortna’s Organizational Excellence team to create a plan to better manage and track labor costs, create an effective management training program and enhance their workload planning tools with key performance indicators and metrics tracking.
Fortna delivered detailed metrics reporting to track direct labor functions per account, increased individual and team productivity visibility and identified key contributors to indirect labor expenses per account. Preferred methods were established to standardize and streamline operations plus eliminate non-value added activities. A High Performance Leadership training program was designed and delivered to empower leads, supervisors, operations managers and directors to share preferred methods, change management and time management techniques, work measurement, observation/coaching and implement lean concepts. Finally, a direct mentoring program was developed to ensure new methods and procedures were followed.
Bottom line results include dramatic labor productivity improvement, including improved benchmarking across multiple facilities; enhanced workload planning tools for management and increased visibility to key performance indicators and metrics tracking through a redesigned labor management program; enhanced customer service levels through the implementation of a continuous improvement program; and improved associate morale.
