
AmeriCold is the largest provider of third party, temperature-controlled food distribution services in the US. They manage over 4 billion pounds of food each year in 30+ locations.
To improve customer service and margins, Fortna was engaged to lead four strategic efforts.
First, the Fortna team assesed their existing Labor Management Program from the systems, operations and people perspective. From this assessment, Fortna designed and implemented a labor management strategy for the entire network. This effort included the development of productivity metrics and labor standards as well as the design and implementation of a custom web-based labor management system. AmeriCold experienced an immediate double-digit reduction in labor costs.
Secondly, the Fortna team designed an Organizational Excellence Program and assessed the operations, management and finances for one of AmeriCold's largest business regions. Our team led the development of a detailed process improvement plan, trained staff, provided facility management resources, and reorganized financial strategies. These efforts yielded a double-digit improvement in facility throughput, increased profit margins and reduced or eliminated inventory accuracy issues for their customers.
Finally, Fortna developed and managed the implementation of a third party Yard Management System into 7 facilities and provided strategy and program management support to guide AmeriCold through the acquisition and conversion of multiple facilities
